Une fondation communautaire double le don de 10 000 $ d'une jeune de 13 ans
(June 28, 2010) Hannah Taylor, 13 year old founder of Winnipeg's Ladybug Foundation recently gifted $10,000 to Unity Project in London with the hopes it would inspire others to give from within our local community. London Community Foundation has matched their gift with a $10,000 urgent need grant, bringing the charity $20,000 in aid of homeless and under-housed men and women.
"Homeless people need our love, care and respect! We all need that and I believe Unity Project provides it. Unity Project makes my heart hopeful," says Hannah.
"A community foundation takes the broadest view of what a community is and what it needs to succeed," says Martha Powell, CEO London Community Foundation. "We sincerely thank Ladybug Foundation for their support of homeless people in London."
"The continued support from our local community foundation and from Winnipeg's Ladybug Foundation, speaks volumes about the issues our community is currently facing," says Chuck Lazenby, the general manager at Unity Project. "Their support of London's men and women experiencing homelessness should be seen as a call to action within our own community. A call to be as responsive as London Community Foundation's and as compassionate as Hannah's!"
The grant money will meet urgent needs for food, and health and hygiene supply and some will be used to expand capacity for food storage within Unity Project's building. Of the $10,000 grant from London Community Foundation, half was from an Urgent Need Grant Program, the other half a grant from The Richard and Beryl Ivey Fund, a fund within London Community Foundation.
